Provides the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively operate chainsaw for the purpose of cutting up already fallen trees.

Introduction:

The Chainsaw Operations Level 1 course has been developed to provide QFES members with the knowledge and skills to effectively, efficiently and safely operate chainsaws during operational situations. The course has been written to satisfy QFES organisational requirements and to reflect the Unit of Competency, AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws.

Learning Methods:

This course is conducted via a Face-to-Face workshop. It is approximately 2 days in duration

Program Benefits:

  • conduct safe work practices including the selection and use of correct PPE
  • conduct a scene assessment, interpret the tasks and plan the cuts accordingly
  • limb and cut the tree using industry recognised methods
  • select, use and maintain equipment suitable for the task
  • conduct chainsaw maintenance
  • act as an offsider/safety officer for a chainsaw operator
  • communicate verbally and non-verbally to team members
